METABOLIC TESTING EXCLUSIVE TO NUTRITION FOR LIFE HEALTHCARE – NEWSTEAD CLINIC

Metabolic Testing

Metabolism is as unique as your fingerprint and can be affected by factors such as age, body composition, hormone function, physical activity levels and diet. Therefore, understanding your metabolism – how your body produces and consumes energy – is the key to improving your overall health and wellbeing.

Obesity, diabetes, PCOS, thyroid issues, fatty liver, fatigue and infertility, are just some of the common health issues associated with a poor metabolism. Metabolic health isn’t just about losing weight or reversing chronic disease, it has a wide range of benefits including feeling younger, better sleep and reduced pain.

WHY GET A METABOLIC TEST?

  • to classify your metabolism as slow, normal or fast
  • to see if your body is fuelling off fats or carbohydrates
  • if you are low in energy
  • you cannot seem to lose weight
  • to check for possible nutrient deficiencies
  • to check if your intermittent fasting plan is the right fit for you
  • to fine tune your macronutrient intake
  • if you are wanting to track calories
  • if you are wanting to boost the health of your cells
  • to see how your metabolic health is tracking or changing with specific interventions
  • to get an accurate eating strategy or meal plan designed exclusively for you which will meet daily energy requirements and health goals

BENEFITS OF METABOLIC TESTING

The Metabolic Function Test will assess;

  • Energy Expenditure
  • Fat burning efficiency
  • Fat storing deficiency
  • Substrate Utilisation
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Effectiveness & progress of dietary or exercise intervention based on all of the above
  • Mitochondria health (your energy cells)

Example of Client Metabolic Test Results

Metabolic Test Results

Otherwise known as Resting Metabolic Rate or Resting Energy Expenditure. This shows normal daily resting energy requirements and can indicate normal, high, or low metabolic rate. This result can be used when creating a customised meal plan.

Measures the type of fuels (carbohydrates or fats) we use to generate energy. The ratio of calories burned between the types of fuels to generate energy sheds light on the effect of the various dietary interventions on a person’s metabolism. For instance, it is a measure of fat burning ability (critical for weight loss applications).

Poor mitochondrial efficiency indicates a lack of oxygen entering the cell, thus reducing the capacity of the cells mitochondria to produce energy. Healthier cells are more efficient and can therefore utilise more oxygen from the atmosphere.

The client breathes normally into a mouthpiece for 5 minutes while sitting reclined on a comfortable chair.

The test will measure;

  • The amount of oxygen inhaled
  • The amount of carbon dioxide exhaled
  • The volume of air in each breath
  • The breathing rate

The systems software will generate a client report that will be provided to the client, and a practitioner report so that we can provide our client with accurate dietary intervention strategies. This data will also be the baseline for tracking the clients progress with retesting, allowing us to monitor how well a strategy is working to achieve the desired results.
